Happy Valentine’s Day ♥

‘Tis the holiday with the greatest controversy of all time: Valentine’s Day. For some people, it is the one day of the year to be mushy gushy all they want, without looking like sappy lovers who are blinded by love. Then there are those who hate this day for being a slap in the face reminding them that they’re alone, while everyone else in the world seems to be in love. For the fellows, Valentine’s Day can be a stab in the wallet, thanks to industries jacking up prices of flowers, teddy bears, chocolate, etc. Of course, some people can simply care less, and it is just another day for them. But before we let prejudices and traditions get to us, let’s not forget why Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the first place.

If you think about it, Valentine’s Day may actually be one of the most unromantic days of the year. Lovers exchange gifts because they’re obligated to. I’m not saying that everyone doesn’t put thought and consideration into choosing a gift, but most guys tend to send flowers or chocolate because that’s what everyone else is doing, and it’s the easiest. In my opinion, it’s overplayed.

Today is meant to celebrate the love and joy of two people being together. It is not a contest to see who sends or receives the most flowers, biggest bear, most expensive dinner, best gift. Celebration comes from the heart, and money can’t buy love. The little things count, and they count the most on this day.

& A shout out to all my single ladies: Nobody can love you more than the way you love yourself. So treat yourself to something special, maybe its the bag you’ve been wanting, or the foods you’ve been craving, because you deserve it, all of it. Besides, who said a valentine must be of the opposite sex? I’m up for more valentines, holla at me ;)

Most importantly, Happy Valentine’s Day to my boo! Thanks for the roses; I love them. Yes, I just mentioned flowers were cliché before, but he got them to me while he was on the other side of the world. That means a lot to me, but it doesn’t substitute for celebrating together though, hehe.

I miss him a lot; hearing his voice over the phone is not enough. Just one more days until he’s back.. can’t wait!

Lady Fingers

A (true) short story from Thanksgiving. Enjoy! :)

It was 2:19 in the middle of the night as we pulled into the parking lot of Pathmark. My boyfriend, Daved, and I were in charge of bringing a dessert for his cousin’s Thanksgiving get-together, which was in approximately… 20 hours. Getting things done last minute is our specialty, not one to be proud of though. We were going to make Raspberry Tiramisu Bites. Yum! It was my idea of course; Daved just wanted to buy some prepackaged cake or cookies, and call it a day. With the list of ingredients in my hand, we entered the supermarket.

Clear shot cups, cream cheese, heavy cream, ladyfingers, orange liqueur, seedless raspberry preserves, fresh raspberries… gathering everything didn’t seem so hard. I glanced around, debating what to grab first. The supermarket seemed fairly quiet. Normally, it would be bustling with people doing their grocery shopping or mothers chasing their children, but there were only a few other late-night shoppers and some workers scattered here and there. I scanned the row of aisle signs and led the way over to the plastic cups and silverware.

“What the heck are ladyfingers?” Daved asked, after grabbing the list from me.

Yay, Flowers!

I woke up this morning suffering from a cold and a huge headache. It was the worst. Then I missed two phone calls from my baby :( I tried calling him back, but I still couldn’t figure out how to use my stupid phone card. Right when I gave up trying, the door bell rang… I went to the door to find:

The roses are beautiful :3 ! & They are now sitting proudly in my room:

This made my day. Even though I still feel like shit, and my head is pounding, I have happiness swirling around inside. Love you honey!

I killed my surprise :(

Soo.. my boyfriend went to China for 10 days for his cousin’s wedding. Unfortunately, he’s going to miss Valentine’s Day with me because he’ll still be there. When I realized and pointed that out to him, he would joke about how I’m going to be all alone on Valentine’s Day. -_-

Right before he boarded the plane, he asked me for my address, so he can send back souvenirs. I didn’t think much of it, and just gave it to him. Then later on in the day, an e-mail popped up on his phone (I’m taking over his phone while he’s gone). The message read:

“Thank you for your order at ProFlowers.com …”

I stopped reading immediately after that… I yelled at myself a little for having looked at the e-mail. But it made my day :). I am currently anticipating the flowers which will be coming on Thursday. I know when it’s coming because he confirmed with me over the phone that I don’t have classes on Thursday, and told me to stay home ‘cause I’ll have a package coming.

Teeeehehehehe. I’m so happy :D

P.S. I hope my boyfriend never sees this post. But if he does, I love you Daved Fu

P.P.S. Girls have a way with finding out everything.
